Copperfruit

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 43 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in fine, knobbly, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the soft wood is yellow-brown.

The sparse amount of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of large, sickle shaped leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are yellow on the edges and silver at the center.

In early spring, it produces many tiny, copper blossoms with finger-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a faint scent that smells like something putrid.

In early winter it produces very large, slender, 2 pointed fruit. The smooth dark brown skin is peel-able and salty, and the crunchy subtle green flesh is slightly savoury and powdery. The blood red seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
