Brownfern

Shrub type: Coniferous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This large shrub grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for around 22 years. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several wide, curved stems covered in very thick, rough, brown-green bark, and the wood inside is gray.

The branches are very long and thin with thousands of twigs that and are covered with small bunches of miniature, stiff, pointed, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are generally hazel, rigid and smooth.

In late summer it produces thousands of large, cream flowers with 4 teardrop-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a strong scent that smells like pineapple.


The sap causes severe rashes
It is suitable for use as a construction material
It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
