Copperfruit Tree

This large fruit tree grows up to 45 feet (13.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 33 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a thick, angular trunk covered in paper-thin, ridged, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the hard wood is light brown.

The abundance of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with handfuls of tiny, broad, flat leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are either ashy purple, or blood red with copper streaks.

In early spring, it produces several giant, violet blossoms with triangular petals with a tube-like floral cup. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like rainy days.

In mid-autumn it produces small, broad, flat fruit. The leathery hazel skin is delicate and inedible, and the very soft blood red flesh is spicy and juicy. The red seeds are small and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
