Bluefruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 49 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in thick, rough, brown bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is light brown.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with very large amounts of giant, slender, pointed leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are solid blue with pink splotches.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of medium-sized, caramel blossoms with triangular shaped petals. They fall easily and have a soft scent that smells like warm milk.

In late summer it produces tiny, perforated fruit. The smooth sky blue skin is thin and sweet and sour, and the soft blue flesh is spicy and savoury and very dry. The yellow seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
