Copperberry

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 60 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, wonky trunk covered in wrinkled, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the flexible wood is pine-coloured.

The tangled mess of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with thick bunches of giant, spear shaped leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are silver on the edges and brown at the center.

In early spring, it produces several small, cyan blossoms with long, tapering petals. They are hardy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like burning wood.

In early summer it produces small, slender, 4 pointed fruit. The rough copper skin is thick and sweet and spicy, and the crunchy azure flesh is sour and dry. The vibrant red seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
