This emerald moss is commonly found growing in large clumps In bogs, and In heathlands.
It is small, growing up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. It forms in small clumps, and is very hardy.
When mature, emerald triangular capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early autumn to release thousands of spores; it can cause allergic reactions.

Several parts of the bine have medicinal properties.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
The stems are covered in large spikes.
