Indigo

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This large fruit tree grows up to 29 feet (8.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 39 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, wonky trunk covered in very thick, wrinkled, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the soft wood is light brown.

The numerous branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with sparse amounts of small, wide leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are indigo and dull yellow.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of small, beige blossoms with triangular shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a mildly strong scent that smells like blood.

In early winter it produces small, wide fruit. The rubbery beige skin is thin and inedible, and the crunchy violet flesh is sweet and spicy and sticky. The white seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is suitable for making paper
It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
The stems are covered in large spikes.
