Bluefruit Tree

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 17 feet (5.2 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 61 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in wrinkled, silver bark, and inside, the hard wood is pale yellow.

The small handful of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with copious amounts of giant, very thick leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are faded red on the sides and bright blue at the center.

In early spring, it produces many bunches of large, purple blossoms with 9 circular shaped petals. They fall easily and have an intensely strong scent that smells like wet dog.

In mid-autumn it produces small, oval fruit. The fuzzy faded red skin is tough and sweet and sour, and the soft faded red flesh is sweet and juicy. The olive seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
