Bronzeberry

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 26 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has dozens of sturdy, straight stems covered in ridged, pine-coloured bark, and the wood inside is pale yellow.

The branches are short and thin with thousands of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of huge, 9 pointed, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are solid bronze or turquoise, with dark brown zig-zags, strong and crispy.

In mid-summer it produces hundreds of medium-sized, lime blossoms with triangular shaped petals. They are very delicate and have an overpowering scent that smells like a damp log.

In late winter asymmetrical fruits ripen. The clammy crimson skin is thick and inedible, and the very soft aquamarine flesh is bitter and sour and juicy. The black seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.
