Burgundy Moss

This burgundy moss is commonly found blanketing small areas In bogs, On trees, and In marshes.
It is big, growing up to 10 inches (25 cm) tall. It forms in large clumps, and is very delicate.
When mature, emerald crescent-shaped capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late autumn to release dozens of spores.
