Silverfruit Tree

This large fruit tree grows up to 34 feet (10.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 40 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, wavy trunk covered in thin, wrinkled, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the light wood is white.

The branches are short, thin and wispy and are covered with sparse amounts of large, wide leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are grey with silver tips.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of small, hazel blossoms with V-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like honeysuckle.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, sickle-shaped fruit. The sticky dark brown skin is tough and sweet and sour, and the soft slate flesh is bitter and syrupy. The red seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.
