Crimson Petal

This giant flower grows up to 12.8 feet (3.9 meters) tall. Its pink-red stem is very thick and splits into many branching stems at the base, and the small, emerald leaves are pleated with wavy edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from the base up to about halfway.

A single medium-sized flower sits at the end of each stem. The flowers are 45 cm (17.7 inches) wide, with alternating petals of orange and crimson, with a copper central disk. The flower head is made up of several petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight sphere. They detach easily.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like vanilla, and it has a fair amount of pollen; it can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to bees.
