Aquamarine

This small caudiciform grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall. The perforated stem is orange-yellow or dark red, and is covered in hundreds of rigid aquamarine spines. The wide, yellow trunk can grow to as much as 4 feet (1.2 meters) in diameter. Its green branches trail down across the ground.

The ripped-edged, pleated leaves are found in black and green varieties. They are delicate, but take little effort to detach.

It is slow growing, taking 14 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with petals that are dark brown at the sides and cream at the center grows at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is largely flat with 9 widely spaced narrow petals. It has an overpowering scent that smells like new carpet.

The caudiciform's skin is very thick, the gold flesh is soft, and the olive sap is thin.
