Groundpine

This average-sized tree grows up to 8 meters (26.2 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 399 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, twisting trunk covered in cracked, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the hard wood is pale brown.

The sparse amount of branches trail down across the ground, covered with handfuls of miniature, green needles. The needles themselves are delicate.

In late summer it produces medium-sized, dark grey seed pods.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
