Bluefruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 60 feet (18.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 31 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, crooked trunk covered in delicate, knobbly, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the dense wood is pale brown.

The abundance of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of miniature, slender, pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are subtle blue on the edges and magenta at the center.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of small, caramel blossoms with stiff, pointed petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a strong scent that smells like freshly washed clothes.

In late autumn it produces tiny, triangular fruit. The clammy turquoise skin is peel-able and edible when boiled; it is salty, and the soft grey flesh is bitter and savoury and very dry. The black seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
