Indigo

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for around 38 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many very thick, straight stems covered in very thick, wrinkled, pine-coloured bark, and the wood inside is white with black speckles.

The branches are short, rigid and upright with thousands of twigs that and are covered with handfuls of large, very thin, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are indigo at the bottom and magenta with turquoise splotches at the top, light and leathery.

It produces a handful of small, silver flowers with needle-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a fairly strong scent that smells like musk. In mid-summer it forms medium-sizedgold, spiky-shelled seeds.
