Copperfruit

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 66 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, wonky trunk covered in smooth, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the very hard wood is white with black speckles.

The excessive amount of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with large amounts of huge, flame-shaped leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either aquamarine, or lime with intense yellow streaks.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of small, grey blossoms with fan-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a weak scent that smells like leather.

In late summer it produces , oval fruit. The leathery crimson skin is stretchy and spicy, and the very soft lime flesh is overwhelmingly salty and oily. The beige seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
