Silverfern

This modest-sized tree grows up to 26 meters (85.3 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 178 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a flexible, angular trunk covered in thick, wrinkled, silver bark, and inside, the light wood is gray.

The abundance of branches are short, rigid and upright, covered with handfuls of miniature, yellow and dark brown needles. The needles themselves are rigid.

In late summer it produces medium-sized, red, shelled seeds.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
