Blackberry

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 20 feet (6.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 33 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a thick, curved trunk covered in paper-thin, cracked, brown and grey bark, and inside, the flexible wood is yellow-brown.

The numerous branches are short, thin and wispy and are covered with large amounts of large, umbrella-shaped leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are black and black.

In early spring, it produces several large, beige blossoms with spear shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like varnish.

In early autumn it produces small, oblong fruit. The sticky crimson skin is peel-able and edible when cooked; it is sweet and sour, and the very soft lime flesh is sour and oily. The light brown seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.

It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
