Blackfruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 17 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in knobbly, silver and white bark, and inside, the very dense wood is black.

The abundance of branches are short stubs and are covered with copious amounts of large, wispy leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are black and black.

In early spring, it produces lots of medium-sized, silver blossoms with slender, pointed petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a strong scent that smells like a woman.

In late summer it produces tiny, heart-shaped fruit. The crispy slate skin is thin and inedible, and the crunchy lime flesh is savoury and sticky. The gentle green seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
