Bloodvine

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This huge caudiciform grows up to 29 feet (8.8 meters) tall. The tapering stem is orange, and is covered in dozens of rigid azure spines. The angular, blood red trunk can grow to as much as 29 feet (8.8 meters) in diameter in the middle. Its green branches trail down towards the ground and start growing at the base the stem.

The handfuls of tattered-edged, perforated leaves are either blood red or magenta, with blue streaks. They are flimsy, and are very difficult to pull away.

It is very slow growing, taking 44 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with amber petals and a yellow center, grow at the top, reappearing after 4 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 29 curved petals. It has an intensely strong scent that smells like garlic.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the olive flesh is soft, and the grey sap is thin.

It can flourish even in standing water.
It coexists peacefully with other plants.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
The leaves are extremely toxic, and very sour.
