Pink-Red Clinger

This short flower grows up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. Its brown stem is wispy, and the huge, pink-red leaves are pleated with rounded edges. The leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

Each stem splits 6 to 11 times; a single tiny flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 2 cm (0.8 inches) wide, with petals that are red on the underside and caramel on the top. The flower head is made up of 42 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight bowl. They detach easily.

It has a scent that varies in strength that smells like pine needles, and it has a fair amount of pollen. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by a small species of bird.
