Bluefruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 21 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in rough, dark brown bark, and inside, the soft wood is black.

The tangled mess of branches are very long and slender and are covered with handfuls of small, pleated leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are found in caramel, pastel orange and white varieties.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of medium-sized, bronze blossoms with finger-like petals. They detach easily and have a faint scent that smells like mint.

In late autumn it produces small, circular fruit. The waxy pastel blue skin is stretchy and edible when boiled; it is slightly salty, and the soft yellow flesh is spicy and oily. The muted orange seeds are tiny and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
