Bloodfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 13 feet (4.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 26 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, twisting trunk covered in wrinkled, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the hard wood is black.

The sparse amount of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with sparse amounts of huge, asymmetrical leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either peach, or blood red with crimson zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces many small, yellow blossoms with finger-like petals. They fall easily and have no scent.

In mid-summer it produces , perforated fruit. The soft turquoise skin is thin and bitter and spicy, and the slightly crunchy blood red flesh is salty and very juicy. The slate seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.


It is suitable for making strong rope
