Caramelberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 49 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a flexible, slanted trunk covered in delicate, waxy, brown bark, and inside, the soft wood is dark brown.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with copious amounts of huge, finger-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid beige with caramel edges.

In early spring, it produces lots of tiny, light red blossoms with fan-like petals. They are sturdy and have a powerful scent that smells like mint.

In early winter it produces very large, long, narrow fruit. The fuzzy orange skin is thin and edible when cooked; it is extremely savoury, and the soft blood red flesh is savoury and very juicy. The silver seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.

It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
