Amber

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 13 years. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of slender, slanted stems covered in ridged, dark brown bark, and the wood inside is brown.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright with thousands of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of huge, wide, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are amber and grey, delicate and crispy.

In mid-summer it produces a handful of giant, lilac blossoms with long, tapering petals. They detach easily and have a weak scent that smells like chocolate.

In late autumn small 3 pointed fruits ripen. The waxy azure skin is thin and edible when cooked; it is very salty, and the slightly crunchy brown flesh is sour and very dry. The red seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.
