Copperfern

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This short tree grows up to 2 meters (6.6 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 179 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a thick, crooked trunk covered in very thick, waxy, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the soft wood is copper-coloured.

The small bunches of branches are short stubs and are covered with very large amounts of smooth, giant, spear shaped leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are found in hazel and blue varieties.

In late summer it forms giant, silver seed pods.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
It can survive a very long time without water.
