Blueberry Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 71 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in delicate, silky, light brown bark, and inside, the light wood is light brown.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with large amounts of miniature, thick leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are beige on the sides and yellow at the center.

In early spring, it produces many balls of small, blue blossoms with long, tapering petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have a faint scent that smells like lavender.

In early autumn it produces small, long, straight fruit. The fuzzy azure skin is thin and bitter, and the crunchy beige flesh is extremely savoury and sticky. The grey seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
