Copperleaf

Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)

This large leaf succulent grows up to 89 feet (27.1 meters) tall. The stiff, pointed stem is copper, and is covered in sharp spines. The bubbly leaves are sky blue and magenta. Handfuls of them grow on thick, gnarled, copper branches that are long and thin. The leaves are robust, but easily come away when pulled.

It is very slow growing, taking 17 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a single flower with petals that are yellow in the center, red in the middle and silver at the edges grows at the top, reappearing after 7 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is largely flat with several tightly layered narrow petals. It has a powerful scent that smells like grass cuttings.

The leaf succulent's skin is thin, the blood red flesh is rough, and the dull purple sap is thin.

It coexists peacefully with other plants.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
