Copperberry

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 46 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a narrow, slanted trunk covered in wrinkled, yellow bark, and inside, the light wood is copper-coloured.

The branches are very long, thin and wispy and are covered with sparse amounts of small, thick leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are found in grey and beige varieties.

In early spring, it produces thousands of small, cyan blossoms with umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like citrus.

In early winter it produces small, oval fruit. The crispy blood red skin is delicate and sweet, and the soft hazel flesh is spicy and sticky. The hazel seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
