This burgundy moss is commonly found blanketing medium-sized areas In rainy mountain ranges.
It is modest-sized, growing up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. It forms in extensive patches and they are exceptionally hardy, and is slightly resistant.
When mature, emerald circular capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late summer to release hundred of spores.

It is often home to a particular bird species.
The grass is spicy and very toxic and while grains are bitter and non-toxic.
It is suitable for making paper
