Amberfruit Tree

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 16 feet (4.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 53 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in thin, silky, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the very dense wood is yellow-brown.

The sparse amount of branches are very long, thin and wispy and are covered with small amounts of miniature, broad, flat leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are sky blue at the bottom and caramel with cream zig-zags at the top.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of large, amber blossoms with pleated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have an intense scent that smells like cheap aftershave.

In mid-autumn it produces , wide fruit. The smooth aquamarine skin is stretchy and edible when cooked; it is spicy and sour, and the soft orange flesh is sour and savoury and sticky. The olive seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.
