Blood Red

Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)

This colossal cactus grows up to 146 feet (44.5 meters) tall. It splits near the top to form 2 pleated stems. Each stem is lime green, and is covered in thick bunches of fine, brown, hair-like spines.

It is slow growing, taking 48 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a single flower with blood red petals and a washed-out red central disk grows at the top, reappearing after 9 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of 26 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight cube. It has a delicate scent that smells like apple.

The cactus's skin is very thick, the bold purple flesh is soft, and the blue sap is thin.

Their seeds have hallucinogenic properties.
