Bloodfruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 47 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, wonky trunk covered in cracked, dark green bark, and inside, the dense wood is pale brown.

The tangled mess of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with small bunches of huge, finger-like leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are either gold or blood red, with grey patches.

In early spring, it produces dozens of medium-sized, sky blue blossoms with perforated petals. They detach easily and have the faintest scent that smells like cheap aftershave.

In early autumn it produces tiny, stiff, pointed fruit. The soft black skin is thick and bitter, and the very soft peach flesh is sweet and powdery. The light brown seeds are tiny and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
