Burgundy Clinger
Flower type: Annual (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)This colossal flower grows up to 11.4 feet (3.5 meters) tall. Its burgundy stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 4 and are very thin and straight, and split into numerous branching stems three quarters of the way up, and the small, brown leaves are thick with ripped edges. 2 leaves grow at the base of the stem.
2 to 5 tiny flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 40 cm (15.7 inches) wide, with lime petals on the lower layer and slate petals decorated with slate dots on the inner layer. The central disk is hazel. The flower head is shaped like a sphere made up of handfuls of widely spaced, narrow petals. They fall easily.
It has a faint scent that smells like pot-purri, and it has very little pollen. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to butterflies.
