Bronzeberry

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 109 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of very thick, wonky stems covered in hard, silky, gray bark, and the wood inside is brown.

The branches are long and slender with dozens of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of huge, oblong, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are bronze on the edges and cream at the center, frail and smooth.

In late spring it produces many clusters of giant, red blossoms with umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a mildly strong scent that smells like rotten eggs.

In late winter tiny slender, 8 pointed fruits ripen. The smooth brown skin is delicate and bitter and spicy, and the soft white flesh is sour and very juicy. The white seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.
