Blood Red

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its leaves)

This small flower grows up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. Its pink-red stem is thin, and the large, blood red or lime leaves are very thick with irregular edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Each stem splits 2 to 5 times; a single giant flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 4 cm (1.6 inches) wide, with each petal a slightly different shade of red. The flower head is made up of 56 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight heart. They are sturdy.

It has a delicate scent that smells like rotten meat, and it has copious amounts of pollen; it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also visited by a variety of insects.
