Blue Glowfern

Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This average-sized flower grows up to 2.0 feet (61 cm) tall. Its yellow-green stem is thin and straight, and the large, florescent green and silver leaves are black on the underside and are perforated with ripped edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Each stem splits 5 to 7 times; a single large flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 44 cm (17.3 inches) wide, with each petal a slightly different shade of bold blue. The flower head is shaped like a sphere with 51 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. They are very delicate.

It has a strong scent that smells like wet dog, and it has very little pollen. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also visited by a small species of bird.

The bark is frequently covered in moss.
