Bloodvine

This short flower grows up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. Its yellow-green stem is very thick and straight, and the small, gray and deep green leaves are sickle shaped with tattered edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

6 to 8 tiny flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 11 cm (4.3 inches) wide, with petals that are blood red in the center, blood red in the middle and intense red at the edges. The flower head is shaped like a bowl made up of 4 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. They are sturdy.

It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like skunk spray, and it has a modest amount of pollen. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to butterflies.
