Copperwood

This short tree grows up to 2 meters (6.6 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 115 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, wonky trunk covered in thick, waxy, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the light wood is copper-coloured.

The small bunches of branches are long and thick and are covered with large amounts of crispy, large, needle-like leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are purple and amber.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of medium-sized, indigo blossoms with long, tapering petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have an intense scent that smells like mint.

In late summer it forms large, dark brown aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
