Copper

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small caudiciform grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall. The very thick stem is gray, and is dotted with small pale red spines. The stocky, red trunk can grow to as much as 4 feet (1.2 meters) in diameter. Its caramel and copper branches are tall, rigid and upright.

The smooth-edged, wide leaves are orange-yellow with beige tips. They are flimsy, but detach easily.

It is very slow growing, taking 42 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with each petal a slightly different shade of azure, grow at the top, reappearing after 9 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a heart made up of handfuls of tightly layered, narrow petals. It has a weak scent that smells like warm milk.

The caudiciform's skin is thick, the violet flesh is rubbery, and the copper sap is thin.

It is very rare outside of a particular area.
Several parts of the grass have medicinal properties.
