Bloodstar

This average-sized flower grows up to 11 inches (28 cm) tall. Its pale red or blood red stem is wispy, and the giant, burgundy leaves are very thick with smooth edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Several giant flowers grow along the length of the stem. The flowers are 13 cm (5.1 inches) wide, with solid red petals and a pink central disk. The flower head is shaped like a star made up of 4 widely spaced, narrow petals. They detach easily.

It has a strong scent that smells like glue, and it has lots of pollen, but it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects , but is also visited by a small species of bird.
