Blueberry Bush

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 157 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several stocky, crooked stems covered in fine, knobbly, black with white speckled bark, and the wood inside is mahogany-coloured.

The branches are long and thin with thousands of twigs that and are covered with very large amounts of small, very narrow and elongated, leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are amber and sky blue, rigid and covered in fine hairs.

In late summer it produces a handful of small, turquoise blossoms with finger-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like freshly washed clothes.

In mid-autumn tiny long, tapering fruits ripen. The rubbery blue skin is peel-able and bitter and sour, and the crunchy blood red flesh is sweet and juicy. The grey seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.
