Copperfruit

This massive fruit tree grows up to 47 feet (14.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 67 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, twisting trunk covered in very thick, waxy, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the very light wood is white with black speckles.

The branches are very long and thick and are covered with small amounts of huge, 4 pointed leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are either azure, or vivid green with olive edges.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of large, gold blossoms with broad, flat petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a weak scent that smells like new carpet.

In early summer it produces , 3 pointed fruit. The leathery yellow skin is tough and bitter and savoury, and the crunchy vivid green flesh is sour and savoury and syrupy. The brown seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
