Twistpine

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 45 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a narrow, twisting trunk covered in hard, wrinkled, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the hard wood is black with white speckles.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with small bunches of large, thick leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are lilac on the edges and blue at the center.

In early spring, it produces thousands of small, blue blossoms with 3 triangular shaped petals. They are hardy and have an intense scent that smells like sweat.

In late summer it produces small, perforated fruit. The hairy indigo skin is thin and edible when roasted; it is sweet, and the slightly crunchy amber flesh is spicy and oily. The yellow seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.
