Copperbell

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This large shrub grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 171 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has numerous slender, angular stems covered in delicate, wrinkled, dark green bark, and the wood inside is burgundy.

The branches are very long and thick with thousands of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of miniature, fan-like, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are blood red on the edges and silver at the center, frail and leathery.

In early spring it produces thousands of tiny, copper flowers with wide petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like varnish.

It is suitable for use as a construction material
It is excellent at collecting and storing carbon dioxide
It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
