This orange moss is commonly found growing in giant clumps On trees, and On rotten logs.
It is small, growing up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. It forms in small clumps and they overwhelm an area rapidly, and is slightly rigid; it struggles more than most during dry spells.
When mature, emerald oval-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early summer to release hundred of spores.

It can grow in even the most barren lands.
Their seeds have hallucinogenic properties.
It is suitable for making strong rope
Several parts of the moss have medicinal properties.
