Blueleaf Maple

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This colossal shrub grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for around 52 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has numerous slender, straight stems covered in hard, knobbly, black bark, and the wood inside is pine-coloured.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright with thousands of twigs that and are covered with sparse amounts of large, very thick, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either amber or beige, with sky blue edges, robust and smooth.

In mid-spring it produces many balls of medium-sized, cream flowers with sickle shaped petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a strong scent that smells like fresh linen.


It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
