Burgundy Succulent

This small leaf succulent grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall. The sickle shaped stem is orange or sky blue, and is covered in thousands of flexible hazel spines. The stumpy leaves are a shade of burgundy that gradient shifts to pink at the top. Very large amounts of them grow on wide, olive or cream branches that are short stubs. The leaves are flimsy, but take some effort to detach.

It is fast growing, taking 8 months to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with petals that are pink on the underside and brown on the top grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is shaped like a star made up of many widely spaced, round-tipped petals. It has a fairly strong scent that smells like candle wax.

The leaf succulent's skin is very thick, the violet flesh is rough, and the vivid yellow sap is thin.
