Bloodberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Evergreen - keeps its leaves all year round)

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 26 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, angular trunk covered in thick, knobbly, brown bark, and inside, the dense wood is mahogany-coloured.

The sparse amount of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of miniature, pleated leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are blood red and olive.

In early spring, it produces dozens of tiny, florescent red blossoms with circular petals. They are sturdy and have a fairly strong scent that smells like pineapple.

In late autumn it produces tiny, long, narrow fruit. The sticky magenta skin is stretchy and inedible, and the very soft deep blue flesh is bitter and juicy. The gold seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It absorbs an exceptionally large amount of water each day.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
